According to chapter 8 - Do I really need a resume ?
a little from my thoughts referring this reading session
first of all i will say that the mentioned advices are mostly new for me, especially the stuff about cover page, job portfolio and the other additional "devices" for designing our resume.
well , i guess those ones are unknown too for most of us.

the first question i asked myself is "why the typical Israeli job-hunter doesn't aware of it ? "
does the Israeli average employer is really looking for those kind of things ?
i think especially in our culture we look for immediate info, the final target, the best fit etc.
we don't need any helpful things that will advertise and promote us,
instead of present some short paragraphs with true facts that 8 seconds will be enough to read it and evaluate truly the applicant .
on the other hand, maybe using only a few times when you really targeting a specific job is necessary to highlight, and bring yourself to an interview.

regarding the update that as job hunters we need to do in our profiles (facebook, Linked in..)
and the amazed fact that almost every employer google us before even considering hiring us
i think, we have to examine it, not to change our profile only because we are now in hunting status
just do it more inviting for the potential employer. A vast change may cause overqualified or in other words "just good to be true"  .

finally to my opinion its important to say that all discussed in the article is good advices for improving the chances to be hunt and present the first stage on finding job.
but !!! nothing substitute the impression you have to do in the interview,
the marketing that you have to do about yourself.
the employer is look for best fit for him, he wants to see it realtime in his own eyes.

  1. Hey Rotem,
I agree with you that we don't need to be in constant feeling that someone is hunting us all over the web. But for the least I've seen more and more executive or people in influential potions have a LINKEDIN accounts - means that there IS an online search of candidate, but not in the scale presented in the article.

I do think the Israeli culture allows us not to neglect our CV. Even at "spotlight" days, companies doesn't care to hear about you, they just say "send us you CV by mail".

I think CV is the main tool you should have if you want to get recruited, but you should have a "clean" account (not facebook) just in case..
