Do you really need a resume? YES!

It's clear that the answer to the question, formed as the article's title - "Do I Really Need a Resume?"
is yes, you do actually need a resume.
The author mentions more than once that an HR representative or any other recruiter scans a resume document for 8 to 30 seconds in order to determine the candidate's quality and compatibility for the job.
Then, the author leaps ahead to explain how to manipulate the data pieces about you on-line in a way you can benefit from such a depth search as described in the article. At the end, the article offers a framework for writing a resume. This framework, together with the whole discussion on editing your resume lacks, as to how I see it, reference to the connection between the "old resume" and "the new resume" in sense of - how to make your resume compelling enough to the recruiter, leading him or her to invest that extra time and conduct more research on you. I would appreciate insight about how to catch the eye of the reader in a form of key sentences or structure, more than just naming topics to list on the resume.
Summing up, I think the conclusion should be - You still need a strong and persuasive resume. After you passed that test, make sure you're ready for the on-line scrub. Again, the author, in his conclusion, omitted (leaving aside the "ancient truths") any regard to the fact that in order to reach that point - where you're being thoroughly examined, you have to convince the recruiter (in those 8-30 seconds) utilizing the resume content that you're worth his while.
