I think it is important for the surfers in your site to realize that this site is something special, only for their intimate group. That they are lucky to be part of the site. Maybe you can do this by linking them to "mentors"- people that work in the type of job they would like to get accepted to. And in the future these people, having been accepted to the job, will serve as mentors themselves and so forth..
