Shortening the distance to customers by allowing them to essentially take part of development process was made famous by google's "Beta" release model. As result you get faster responses, save money and get real time real input directly from the customers.
I've raised millions of dollars and spent millions, it corrupts no matter how you look at it. You focus on investors, while your main focus as a growing company must be the customers. You start hiring consultants instead of asking customers directly and on....only after shedding the bad work culture and turning back into a lean startup were we able to grow and make money, bringing millions of dollars in revenue and quarter over quarter profits. We called this bootstrapping, I guess this is the old term for lean startup.
The concepts in the book are well defined and in line with my beliefs. Beside the author taking too much credits to him-selve, he does a great job the concept of lean startup and more importantly management and entrepreneurship. YES they must go together, and one doesn't work without the other. Accordingly it is imperative to understand the means and measures for managing a lean-startup, the catch is that you got to be very careful not to tangle oneself too many processes - the outcome is in cash, not in the positive reports.
