Want to be part of an International Consulting Company? Here are 10 Rules you need to follow ...

By Sofia Waisman, Max International Engineering Group

Rule 1 - Appearance  - You are expected to look healthy and well dressed.
Why? - Paying attention to personal hygiene and dress code signal your professionalism and respect to other people.

Rule 2 - Be on time
Why? - Being late shows disrespect to other people, and signals that you are not reliable.

Rule 3 - Listen -- Think -- Speak
Why? - People would appreciate you if you are a good listener. Instead of trying to push your idea let the person speak his mind first with no interruptions.  Eventually you will be asked for your opinion, and your chances of pleasing your client will increase.

Rule 4 - Understand the upside and downside of networking
Why? - Most projects are achieved through personal contacts and networking.  In this business, everybody knows everybody.  Service failures may affect your entire business through the client's network.

Rules 5 - Understand and be sensitive to differences between people and cultures
Why? - in a global business your clients are international, so you must study, understand, and tolerate cultural differences.  If you do, you get a huge advantage! And not knowing the culture might fail your business.

Rule 6 - Accept Failure and No
Why? -  Failures are opportunities to learn.  Many successful people survived failures, but they learned important lessons and continue with their vision and mission.  The key is to continue persistently until you succeed.

Rule 7 - Never say Never.  Be positive and aim high.
Why?  - You are more likely to break boundaries and make a difference if you believe in yourself, and hope for the best. Try to create opportunities, or at least not to loss them.

Rule 8 - Be a good person, kind and nice, smile to everybody and be grateful.
Why? - You will be treated the same way by others.  People will like you and will appreciate you kindness.

Rule 9 - Be Flexible
Why? - Consulting requires long hours of commitments, and often travelling on a short notice to different places on the globe.

Rule 10 - Be ready to rediscover your career Sweet Spot
Why? - if you return home after a long day at work unhappy, and after a good night sleep you are still unhappy, it might be the time make a change in your life.
